Who We Are
Shafer Parker – Bible teacher, Board Member: Faith Beyond Belief
Shafer brings 39 years of pastoral experience to his Bible teaching ministry, having served churches in Canada and the U.S. He has an M.Div. from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and has done the course work toward a D.Min. in Applied Theology with Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Shafer also spent seven years as a professional journalist and editor.
Shafer has been married to Jeanne Hood Parker for 47 years. Together they are parents of two sons who have blessed them withseven grandchildren.
Shafer has spoken at a wide variety of events and has taught at seminaries in Russia, Ukraine, and Cameroon. He speaks on a wide variety of topics, giving an apologetics and worldview-related connection to each.
Our Mission
At Defense for the Family, we seek to equip and connect individuals to think Biblically in a secular culture, and uphold God’s perfect design for the family. Many people are feeling hopeless because they do not have the necessary tools or knowledge to stand up for what is right and good and are confused about what is true. We believe defending the family is a good fight in which everyone should and must enlist. We have hope in Jesus that He is victorious. It can be discomforting seeing what is going on in our country and the world. Often it feels as if we are losing the battle. The Bible tells us, however, that we can have victory in Jesus and we are confident of this because “greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). We seek to partner with like-minded leaders who are already in this fight. Statistics consistently show the importance of family as God created it to be, and the effects of Godly moral values on society.

Statement of Faith
- We believe the Bible is the written word of God, is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.
- We believe there is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
- We believe that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are totally unable to save themselves from God’s wrath, except by His mercy.
- We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.
- We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
- We believe prayer is powerful and effective.
